Everything You Need to Know About KITAP: What It Is and How to Apply

by Jacob Cole

KITAP, a permanent stay permit, was introduced in 2007 as a replacement for the previous visa system. KITAP is an abbreviation for “Kartu Izin Tinggal Terpadu Pengungsi”.

It is intended to simplify the process of applying for a visa and encourage foreign investment in Indonesia. KITAP holders are required to maintain health insurance and to report their whereabouts to the authorities every three months.

KITAP has been generally well-received by the business community and foreign investors. It has been praised for its efficiency and flexibility, and for the fact that it allows foreigners to live and work in Indonesia with relative ease.

However, some critics have argued that KITAP does not do enough to protect the rights of workers or to ensure that foreign investment benefits the Indonesian economy as a whole. Nonetheless, KITAP remains an important tool for attracting investment and talent to Indonesia.

Who can apply?

  • Have been married to an Indonesian for more than two years.
  • Having a KITAS and having worked as a director for a corporation for more than 3 years
  • Having had a retirement KITAS for more than three years
  • A former Indonesian national with a KITAS

The Complete Process to Apply for KITAP Visa.

The first step is to gather all of the necessary documents. These include:

  • Passport  with 18 months valid and at least three empty pages
  • Passport size photographs
  • a copy of your birth certificate,
  • Letter of Domicile
  • Copy of KITAS
  • and a letter from your employer.

The next step is to submit these documents to the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your home country. Once your application has been processed, you will be issued a visa.  KITAP processing usually takes about 4-6 weeks.

Finally, you will need to register your visa with the Indonesian Immigration office upon arrival in Indonesia. After following these steps, you will be able to obtain a KITAP visa.

Benefits of KITAP

The KITAP visa allows foreigners to stay in Indonesia for up to five years, with the possibility of renewal. It also grants holders many of the same rights as Indonesian citizens, including the ability to work, own property, and start businesses. Other benefits include:

-Access to quality healthcare and education

Indonesia has some of the best hospitals in Southeast Asia, and KITAP holders are entitled to use them. In addition, they can send their children to Indonesian schools and universities.

Indonesia is a democracy with a stable political environment. This makes it an ideal place to live and work for KITAP holders.

Difference between KITAP and KITAS

There are several key differences between KITAP and KITAS. First, KITAP is obtained through sponsorship by either a family member or employer in Indonesia, while KITAS is issued directly by the Indonesian government.

Second, KITAP holders are allowed to stay in Indonesia for up to five years at a time, while KITAS holders are typically only allowed to stay for one year.

Third, KITAP holders are able to apply for permanent residency status after five years, while KITAS holders are not.

Finally, KITAP holders are also issued a multiple-entry visa, while KITAS holders are only issued a single-entry visa.

To Sum Up:

The KITAP visa allows foreigners to live and work in Indonesia for up to five years, which is then extended automatically. This type of visa is also known as a Permanent Stay Permit (Paspor Permanent). The KITAP visa is the most common type of visa used by foreigners living in Indonesia. If you are planning on staying in Indonesia for an extended period of time, then the KITAP visa is the best option for you.
